Spitsbergen - Svalbard archipelago

Svalbard, an archipelago in the north of Norway, is an extraordinary and magical place. We stepped into a unique world where the day lasted 24 hours, and although according to astronomers the sun set, it was bright all day long. Temperatures oscillated between -20°C and -10°C, and the blowing wind made the perceived temperature even lower..

Michał, a wonderful man, traveller, and owner of an event agency, invited me on the trip. We have already had the opportunity to travel together. He is a fantastic, energetic person who can organise any event in any part of the world!

On the page, there are many links to subpages where you will find many more photos and videos from our expeditions: Follow the links looking like this one

We started our joint adventure at the airport in Oslo. In the video below, you can meet the rest of the crew and see how I welcomed them at the very beginning:

We ordered a taxi and went to the cottage we had rented for the first night. Later that day, we also went to explore Oslo. You can read more about the cottage, the weather, and what's happening in Oslo in a separate article.

The next day, we got up early and went to the airport. We checked in our luggage and flew to Longyearbyen. The flight lasted a total of over three hours. We had a stopover in Tromso, during which we all had to leave the plane along with all our luggage and go through passport control.

When we finally arrived in Longyearbyen, as soon as we left the airport, we headed to the bus that took us to the area of our home - our base for the next few days.

On that day, we also visited "Longyear Town" - you can read more about it in a separate entry. That's where you'll find out why Łukasz was so happy.

Another day was a day of great adventure - a snowmobile trip to Pyramiden!

We put on all our warmest clothes, shoes, hats, and gloves. We looked like we were about to fly on a Ryanair holiday and didn't want to pay extra for luggage!

We went to the office of the company that rents out snowmobiles. There we met Igor, our guide, who was to show us the island over the next few days.

Więcej na ten temat znajdziesz w osobnym artykule. Tu opiszę to w dużym skrócie.

Before we set off, I recorded a short message for Anci:

Along the way, we stopped a few times to take photos, eat, or swap snowmobiles.

And so we drove and drove until we reached the destination of our journey:

We completed the route in about 6 hours.

Regarding Pyramiden itself, the conditions that prevailed in the hotel, and who Roman is and what he told us - you can read about it in a separate entry.

The next day, after breakfast and exploring the city, we set off on our way back. And to our delight - again on scooters. The weather was much better than the day before. The photos also turned out great - many more than this one below can be found in a separate post.

Unfortunately, on that day, just before the end of the trip, we had a small accident. The scooter that Kasia and Jarek were riding overturned on a slope. Unfortunately, Jarek sustained an injury. He was still able to continue the journey, and we reached our destination, but a medical consultation was needed. Fortunately, everything ended well - with no fractures or more serious injuries.

We spent the rest of the day at home, resting and talking about contemporary art...

The next day, early in the morning, we went to the port to visit another city on the island by cruise ship. - Barentsburg.

You will read more about this wonderful city in a separate post

We returned on the same ship. During the journey back, Nataila entertained us with sea stories..

After returning to Longyear, we went to take a photo by the coolest sign in the world:

Next, we will visit the restaurant where we ordered, among other things, carpaccio and whale steaks..

After dinner, we went over to the bar to try whiskey from... our vintages.

And so, still charged with positive energy, we headed home.

On the morning of the next day, it was time for the big packing, the journey to the airport, and the return home. Spitsbergen didn't let us forget about it until the very last moment - see how we boarded the plane:

I parted ways with the team at the airport in Oslo, where we had a layover. I flew to London while the rest went through Copenhagen to Warsaw..
