Interesting facts about The Great Central Railway:

  • History: This line was built by the Great Central Railway Company and was a key transport route, especially for the carriage of goods and passengers. Despite being closed by British Railways in 1969, the line was saved and restored thanks to the efforts of a group of enthusiasts and volunteers.

  • Activity: GCR is managed by volunteers and is a popular tourist destination that attracts both railway enthusiasts and families with children.

The Great Central Railway is a living fragment of railway history that allows visitors to experience the magic of travelling in the bygone days of the railway amidst the beautiful landscapes of Leicestershire.
