We visited this small town during one of our Spanish trips. If you want to see the whole trip - take a look here
Setenil de las Bodegas is a charming town known for its unique architecture. The houses are built into the rocks and under large overhanging cliffs along the Río Guadalporcún. This gives the town an extraordinary and picturesque appearance..
Zwe parked in a free car park, very close to the centre. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/hq9T7Ltui7d1JUJeA) The car park was full of cars and we took one of the last spaces.!
The first thing that caught our attention was the parade of old cars
The most important information is that to get to the main attraction of the town, at this roundabout:
turn left, and then go straight on. We didn't have that knowledge, maybe it's for the best, because we had the chance to stroll through the narrow streets
We arrived at the huge Plaza de Carmen, from which there was a stunning view of the entire town.
There was also a large sign with the name of the town and a view of the Castillo de Setenil de las Bodegas
This castle was captured by Catholic forces on 21st September 1484 after seven attempts to reclaim it from Muslim hands. Hence the name of the town "Setenil" - it probably comes from the Latin expression "septem nihil," which means "seven times nothing."
After a successful, as you can see, photo session, we descended the steep stairs to the most popular part of the city.
Finally, we saw what brought us here
Houses that were built under a rocky overhang
For a while, we wandered around the area, took a few photos, and set off on our way again..
Our next stop was Ronda. You can read more about it Here here
