The origin of Las Fallas comes from an old tradition of carpenters, who, celebrating the arrival of spring on 19 March, would burn pieces of wood (parots) that were used to support the lights during winter.
To this bonfire, they gradually began to add old things and rags, which gave the wooden structure a human appearance, until they became the ninots we know today. The Valencian sense of humour quickly gave the ninots an ironic character that persists to this day.
The Fallas celebrations have transformed into temporary works of art, which in some cases cost millions of euros.
