City Hospital No. 126 in Pripyat is one of the most well-known places associated with the Chernobyl disaster.
It was a modern medical complex that could accommodate up to 410 patients. On the night of 25th to 26th April 1986, after the explosion of reactor number 4, it was here that the first injured firefighters and power plant workers arrived.
This hospital played a crucial role in the first hours after the disaster, when the medical staff had to confront the symptoms of acute radiation sickness in patients. Unfortunately, due to high levels of radiation, many of these individuals did not survive, and the hospital itself became one of the most contaminated places in Pripyat.
